Backwater are Scotlands Ultimate Status Quo tribute, voted as one of the finest Quo tribs in the UK, and the longest established in Scotland. Their take on the classic '70's hard rocking "Frantic Four" sound of Status Quo at their zenith, has been critically acclaimed to be the finest in Scotland.
Research, attention to detail in the composition of Quo's music and the onstage delivery from these four naturally talented musicians, has made Backwater an in demand act in all over the UK and beyond.
They were formed in 2008 by 4 experienced local musicians who when seeing the Scottish tribute scene was devoid of a Status Quo band, decided to do something about it.
The name Backwater was chosen after a classic Quo album and live track which coincidentally also reflected the band's roots; at the time the band were rehearsing in a tin roofed hut in Tarbolton with a wood burning stove, and latterly in a draughty barn in deepest East Ayrshire! These days they rehearse in more salubrious surroundings in Mauchline, South Ayrshire.
From the outset, they decided to concentrate mainly on numbers from the 1970's hard rocking, 12 bar boogie sound of Status Quo at their zenith. They do however, also sprinkle their sets with singles and album tracks right up to the present day, making them the ultimate choice in Scotland for fans of Quo's music.
Their first gig at the Eagle Tavern, Prestwick in 2009, was well received by an appreciative crowd made up of locals and die hard Status Quo fans who went away impressed by the authenticity, attention to detail and energy that the band exuded.
Backwater have since gone on to be the number one choice in Scottish Status Quo tributes, they are one of the most respected in the UK by their peers and have had glowing testimonials from fans wherever they have played, not just in Scotland but in Ireland, Wales, and England too.
To date, The band continue to hold their own as Scotland's Ultimate Status Quo Tribute and at any gig you can expect to hear not only crowd pleasers such as Caroline, Whatever You Want or Rocking All Over The World, but classic live, hard hitting songs such as Big Fat Mama, Roll Over Lay Down or Roadhouse Blues to name a few.
